Facts About Outer Planets Jupiter Facts Jupiter  size compared to  Earth Jupiter  distance from the  Sun  and orbital eccentricity Jupiter is the fourth brightest object in the solar system. Only the Sun,  Moon  and  Venus  are brighter. It is one of five planets visible to the naked eye from Earth. The ancient Babylonians were the first to record their sightings of Jupiter. This was around the 7 th  or 8 th  century BC. Jupiter is named after the king of the Roman gods. To the Greeks, it represented Zeus, the god of thunder. The Mesopotamians saw Jupiter as the god Marduk and patron of the city of Babylon. Germanic tribes saw this planet as Donar, or Thor. Jupiter has the shortest day of all the planets. It turns on its axis once every 9 hours and 55 minutes. The rapid rotation flattens the planet slightly, giving it an oblate shape. Jupiter orbits the Sun once every 11.8 Earth years. From our point of view on  Earth , it appears to move slowly in the sky, taking

Facts About The Inner Planets FACTS ABOUT MERCURY Mercury has been known to humanity since ancient times  and although its discovery date is unknown, the first mentions of the planet are believed to be around 3000 BC by the Sumerians. A year in Mercury is 88 days, yet a Mercury day is 176 Earth days.  Mercury is nearly tidally locked to the Sun – also known as a gravitational lock – and over time this has slowed the rotation of the planet to almost match its orbit around the Sun. Mercury orbits so quickly around the Sun that early civilizations believed it was actually two different stars  – one which appeared in the morning and another which appeared in the evening. Mercury is the smallest planet in the solar system  with a diameter of 4,879 km and is one of five planets that is visible to the naked eye. FACTS ABOUT VENUS Venus is the second brightest natural object in the sky.  The planet has an apparent magnitude of -3.8 to -4.6, which makes it visible on a bright

facts of universe The Universe Is Getting Bigger NASA, ESA, E. Jullo (JPL/LAM), P. Natarajan (Yale) and J-P. Kneib (LAM) The Universe's Growth Spurt Is Accelerating In the 1920s, astronomer Edwin Hubble made the revolutionary discovery that the universe is not static, but rather is expanding. But, it was long thought that the gravity of matter in the universe would slow this expansion or even cause it to contract. In 1998, the Hubble Space Telescope studied very distant supernovas and found that, a long time ago, the universe was expanding more slowly than it is today. This puzzling discovery suggested that an inexplicable force, called dark energy, is driving the accelerating expansion of the universe. [ Full Story ] While dark energy is thought to be the strange force that is pulling the cosmos apart at ever-increasing speeds, it remains one of the greatest mysteries in science because its detection remains elusive to scientists. Teori Pembentukan Bumi 1. 3. Teori P
